ABOUT
Rachel is a driven, passionate Australian fashion designer and stylist with an
intense love for all things design, styling, music and producing.
Prior to completing a Bachelor of Creative Arts in Fashion Design, Rachel spent
eighteen months living in Milan, Italy, an experience that fortified
her interest in the art of ‘slow’ fashion and timeless garment design. In early
2017, she undertook an immersion program and studied a part of her degree
at the highly sought-after European Institute of Design in Florence, Italy.
Rachel is the recipient of multiple scholarships including the AWET (Australian
Wool Education Trust) Woolmark scholarship for excellence in wool-based design
and innovation. In 2018, she was awarded first place, Australasian Young
Designer in the street wear category of the Hamilton Sheepvention, where Rachel
presented three designs. In 2019, she was invited to present at the Slow
Fashion Festival alongside sustainable fashion giants including Patagonia and
Good Studios.
Rachel has developed and is running her own brand, Portico the Label, where she
offers ‘slow’, bespoke, made to measure garments and accessories. Her second
Portico the Label collection premiered at the highly anticipated SA Fashion
Focus Weekend.
Rachel has worked under a number of apparel and accessory brands including,
Sans Beast, Katya Komarova, Simone Perele, Toast Society and Bubish Luxe.
As a designer today Rachel prides herself on celebrating the subtle
nuances of tailored streetwear, fusing utilitarianism with modernity, and
endeavours to function with sustainability at the forefront. She aims to achieve
an ultimate result of designs that remain timeless, relevant, and purpose built
to last.
Alongside operating in the fashion industry, Rachel enjoys a lifelong passion
and involvement in the music industry and performs engaging mostly with jazz
and soul. She placed first in the Australasian Generations in Jazz Competition
and performs both publicly and for private and corporate events including the
Adelaide Fringe Festival, The Cabaret Festival and The Jazz Lab in
Melbourne’s heart of jazz, Brunswick.
